A long, low wooden table covered in colorful, carefully arranged art supplies: acrylic paints in small open jars, neatly sharpened colored pencils, stacks of sketchbooks with textured covers, and intricately designed paper cutouts featuring Asian patterns and calligraphy strokes. The table sits in front of a large floor-to-ceiling window that reveals a soft-focus cityscape blending modern high-rises with traditional-style rooftops. Gentle afternoon natural light floods the scene, creating soft reflections on glossy paint surfaces and delicate shadows from brushes and pens. Photographic realism at eye level, with a shallow depth of field that keeps the table in sharp focus while the city and wall posters about youth culture blur into a warm, inviting background, conveying creativity, cultural pride, and professional organization.

AYCA organizes youth-led events and festivals that bring creative work into public spaces, celebrate cultural diversity, and uplift young artists as community leaders. Through showcases, performances, and collaborative festivals, youth share their stories, talents, and visions with wider audiences.

Our events are co-designed and co-hosted by youth participants, with support from artistic mentors, educators, and community partners.

Arts Festival

AYCA’s Arts Festival is a youth-centered celebration of creativity, culture, and community.

What it is: A festival featuring youth-created visual art, performances, interactive workshops, and cultural activities. The festival highlights the work produced through AYCA’s programs and provides a platform for new collaborations and experiments.

What you might see:

  • Visual art exhibitions and installations
  • Short performances in music, dance, theater, and spoken word
  • Interactive arts stations, zine-making, and collaborative murals
  • Cultural storytelling, food, and hosted conversations

Led by youth: Youth leaders help plan the theme, curate work, host activities, and emcee the event, gaining experience in event production and community organizing.

Youth Arts Showcase

The Youth Arts Showcase is a focused platform for young artists to present their work, reflect on their process, and connect with peers, families, and community members.

What it is: A showcase of youth-created work across disciplines—visual arts, media, performance, writing—often culminating a specific program cycle, lab, or workshop series.

Highlights:

  • Gallery-style presentations, readings, and screenings
  • Youth artist talks and Q&A sessions
  • Feedback circles and reflection activities
  • Printed or digital collections such as zines, catalogs, or reels

Why it matters: Showcases affirm youth artists as creators and leaders, giving them space to be seen and heard while building confidence and public speaking skills.

Community Performances

Community Performances bring youth-led art and storytelling into neighborhood spaces, schools, and community venues.

What it is: Pop-up performances, cultural programs, and public events that feature youth as performers, hosts, and organizers. These may be stand-alone events or part of larger festivals and collaborations.

Examples:

  • School assemblies and cultural nights
  • Performances at libraries, community centers, and parks
  • Collaborative events with local festivals or partner organizations
  • Storytelling circles and open mic events

Community impact: These performances invite families, neighbors, and partners to engage with youth perspectives, building bridges across generations and communities.

Youth-Led Planning & Leadership

Across all events and festivals, youth are at the center of:

  • Planning & Logistics – developing program flow, outreach, and schedules
  • Curation & Programming – selecting themes, artists, and activities
  • Hosting & Facilitation – emceeing, moderating, and leading interactive segments
  • Reflection & Evaluation – gathering feedback and shaping future events

Adult advisors, teaching artists, and community partners provide mentorship and operational support while affirming youth leadership at every step.
